Ursa Major Associates employs two key methodologies in our work. For engagements dealing with strategic opportunities, we use value-chain based analysis to ensure rational alignment with our clients’ resources, goals and capabilities. As we move into business planning, implementation, or logistics outsourcing, we use a business process driven approach which provides a clear perspective of existing and desired business operation and results Value-chain based analysis Typical strategic engagements begin with a fundamental value-chain analysis. We examine what value our clients’ products or services provide for their customers as well as what role the company plays in the facilitation of commerce along the chain. We plot at which points the company shows up within the flow of goods and services from conception to consumption, from origin to destination, from supplier to customer. We note where existing competitors stake their claims and where new competitors are likely to arrive. We look for ‘hot spots’, areas of opportunity and/or concern. We assess strong and weak links along the value chain and identify points where our clients and their competitors apply leverage, now and in the future. We help our clients to see where they show up on the competitive landscape, assess where they fit in the delivery of value. We help them see their way clear to the attainment of their goals. Business Process Design As we move to implement our strategic recommendations or develop business transformation plans, we apply a disciplined business process design approach to understand our clients’ issues and provide a forum for alternative solutions. This methodology, driven by business questions and answers sessions with the business process stakeholders ensures that our clients’ business objectives are met and that our recommendations are implementable. We consider all aspects of proposed recommendations and changes to ensure organizational preparedness. This process provides for “real world” solutions and timeframes. We apply technology to our solutions in a pragmatic, not idealistic manner. This increases the likelihood for envisioned results to be realized. Lastly, we design the appropriate measurement systems to ensure results are monitored and maintained in the continuing business operations. Typical Process Flow Diagram
